I agree with H. Lee's review above. I've owned these for several years and the only issue is the material that the soles are made out of. It is not Vibram. It is some sort of material made by Rubbermaid. It definitely does not grip rock (wet or dry) anything like Vibram. I've been a great fan of Asolo boots for years, and still am, but I think they made the wrong choice of sole material for this particular model.

I write this review to inform potential buyers of a serious problem I have with this shoe. First, let me get the positives out of the way. These boots are light, extremely comfortable, durable, and water resistant. They support my feet relatively well with a 25-30lb pack. I haven't had any blisters or any arch problems with these shoes. I hike on all types of terrain. Now on to an important negative. The soles are not very good. They do not grip well on slick rock. In fact, I've almost slipped on wet concrete on a sidewalk. I've also walked on wet flat painted stairs and could not get a grip. These are rated 3 season but I would argue they are 2 season. Rain + soles = bad news. Although not designed for winter, I've walked outside in the snow and in ice and the soles do not grip well. I also own a Keen sandal so I tried to walk on the slippery surfaces that my Asolo did not grip well. Ironically, my Keens outperformed my Asolo FSN, even on ICE! I think it's time for Asolo to retire these shoes (they've been on the market for awhile now). I am a huge Asolo fan and will continue to use Asolo but as soon as these get worn out, I'm switching to the newer designs.

I had these boots for over two years, and hiked with them various places around the country and the world. They're comfortable, reliable, water proof, durable. I finally ruined them after tramping through seven miles of jungle mud in Belize and then leaving them in a garbage bag in my pack for a week--so now I'm here to buy another pair.
