Five Ten Climbing Shoes

If you’re looking for a sport that engages your mind as well as your body, you should take up rock climbing! I recently started to rock climb for fitness with friends and it’s become a fun way to test your body’s limits. Read all about the benefits of rock climbing and what you need to start below the cut!

Let me first say that you don’t need to be extremely young or fit to rock climb. There are plenty of easy routes at rock climbing gyms for beginners, and you will definitely improve as you continue to practice. It is also a sport that both men and women can equally enjoy, although many gyms are full of men. Climbing is all about creativity and knowing how your body fits in space. It’s a whole body exercise that particularly uses your arms and legs.

Climbing is a very social sport, as if you plan on climbing in gyms, you’ll need a belay partner to help you out if (or when) you fall. This dependency creates a bond between you and your partner, which makes it a great way to develop friendships!

You’ll need a climbing harness,  five ten climbing shoes, a pear-shaped carabineer, a chalk bag, and chalk to start climbing. Most gyms allow you to rent all this equipment, but if you’ll be climbing frequently it’s a good idea to invest in your own. In terms of shoes, buy tight shoes, but not expensive ones because you’ll tear them up anyway. Also make sure you carabineer has a locking-gate or screw-gate.

With this equipment and a partner, you’re ready to start climbing! There are several techniques and knots you need to learn, so it is best to take a class or learn from a friend. The most important thing is to know your limits when you’re climbing and don’t be afraid to give up on a route when you get tired. You can always try again next time! In no time you’ll be able to pack up your North Face rucksack on your back and try out your techniques outdoors!
