I have been wearing Florsheim Rivas for about 20 years (ever since I became unable to find the similar French Shriner model). I think they have a timeless, never-out-of-fashion elegance. More important, they are very comfortable. The all-leather upper is soft and pliable, and the plastic sole is soft, well cushioned, and noiseless when walking on hard floors. These shoes hold up pretty well; I wear mine about once a week and a pair lasts for 3 to 4 years or even more. The only problem is they are a bit expensive; since my last purchase, I have found similar shoes (including the long-lost French Shriners!) in the $60 to $70 range.

To me most shoes feel like someone strapped a 2x4 to my foot. These are THE most comfortable shoe right out of the box. And they last. A shoe salesman once told me "a good pair of shoes should last you 6 months, then you should replace them." I had no response. I left there and bought another pair of Riva's. I would tell you how long they have lasted but it has been so many years now I can't remember. I am not much for taking care of shoes either. True, I do polish them once a year but after that I take them through rain, snow, and salt covered sidewalks and it is a quarter-mile one way from the parking lot to my building. I think if you try these you will be as pleasantly surprised as I was with my first pair.
