I just love the combination of different colors put together in a single outfit. It makes me feel happy and carefree. And luckily for me, this vibrant color blocking effect is huge this spring. You just have to combine different colors that support and complement each other. Or combine colors that are natural opposites. You can also wear just one bright color all over and make a bold statement. See how you can color block with your pumps for maximum effect:
1. When you color block, you get outrageous and funky combinations. I thought colors were randomly thrown together to suit a wearer’s whims and fancies. But a designer friend of mine told me that the color combinations have a certain connection. She said that there’s a trend, a certain pattern to mixing and matching colors.
2. She told me how to understand the color wheel where you have a spectrum of colors. She also told me that using up to three to four colors can be pleasing but not more than that. That’s when I understood about analogous colors – colors that are lined up next to each other, for example, like blue green, green and yellow green. Or that you can use complementary colors that are placed directly opposite each other like red and green or orange and blue or other combinations.
3. Try wearing a tangerine blazer or jacket over a bright purple top and match it with emerald green trousers. Complete the look with Steve Madden’s Traisie green pumps and a gold belt and see how eye-catching this can be.
Silver, gold, brown and gray are considered neutral shades that can be used very effectively with primary colors. Evenings shoes like the Stuart Weitzman silver lame sling back can be combined with over the top colors and make a fabulously trendy fashion statement. When you’re color blocking and want to wear silver glitter shoes, keep the dress simple but with a fabulous cut. Combine with an embellished or sequined jacket for added glamour.
