First appearing on coins, later used as the signatures of artisans and guilds, found on the accoutrements of royalty and then on the merchandise of brands, monograms are classic motifs that confer recognition and signal loyalty. And nowadays they’re not just for your letterheads, either: a single repeated monogram can form a pleasing wallpaper-like pattern on your clothes, signaling to the world that yes, I do own a full set of Louis Vuitton luggage used exclusively for my business trips between New York and Beijing.
Granted, you want to avoid the head-to-toe monogrammed look lest you look tacky (unless you’re going for the rapper look, wearing a Gucci kaftan and sleeping in Gucci sheets).
But incorporating the echoing logo of your favorite designer brand into your footwear should be discreet and acceptable, no? Coach did it (check out their logo sneakers, high heels and boots). Louis Vuitton has them (except with a higher price tag – Justin Bieber was spotted in $700 LV Tower Black sneakers at a wedding and earlier, Ne-Yo had worn the same sneaker boots in London. Louis Vuitton even has monogrammed suede lace-ups, although their appropriateness for the office is still under consideration).
If you don’t have a random $700 to through around, you might want to try more affordable Guess sneakers. They have high-top boot sneakers, Velcro sneakers and even high heels and flats, and although the allure is not as strong as Gucci, they’re perfectly fine shoes with a price tag that won’t make you want to faint.
