It is, indeed, hard to imagine yesteryear s tennis player like Big Bill Tilden (the first fashion icon of male tennis) with today s fashionable demi-Gods and Goddesses of Tennis like Andre Agassi, Anna Kournikova or Maria Sharapova. But it is true that there was a time when tennis players had to make do with simple white long sleeved button-up shirts (rolled-up sleeves, of course) and white flannel trousers! The discomfort that the tennis players faced in those times led Rene Lacoste (the former Grand Slam Tennis player) to reinvent himself through his brand 'the Lacoste'. A typical golf shirt (polo shirt), formerly tennis shirt, is a T-shaped shirt having a collar and 2-3 buttons immediately down a slit (just below the collar). Golf shirts are usually made of pique or twilled cotton for protecting the neck from the sun by turning the collar up.
