A friend of mine who had been stationed in Germany highly recommended Lowa boots. He said that it was like "treating your feet" and that I'd love them. I decided to check them out, and found that they were kind of spendy (before I'd experienced them); I was used to paying about $100 for a pair of boots. But then, these are made in Germany, not China. And the Germans know a little something about quality!I went with the Renegades because they wre kind of the entry-level model at the store (compared to the leather ones). I was not disappointed. These are the best hiking boots I've owned to-date. They have a Goretex lining so you can go through streams, or just keep your feet dry hiking in drizzle. They're also very light, which makes a big difference on long trips. These are marketed as day hiking boots, but I've taken mine on a week-long trek through the backcountry of RMNP and they held up great. I walked endless miles in them and did quite a bit of bouldering, and they never tore or wore through. Finally, the soles wore down. I'm trying to decide whether to go up a few notches or buy these again. I figure if these boots were so great, what will their higher models be like?!
