Here are some interesting things about Nike you may not know. The word Nike comes from the Goddess of Victory in ancient Greece. She is the goddess of strength, speed, and victory. ("victory") was the last word spoken by the soldier Pheidippides before he collapsed and died after covering 150 miles in two days. Nike's original name was Blue Ribbon Sports. Blue Ribbon Sports was founded in 1964 by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight and renamed Nike in 1978. During the 2000 opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics, Nike aired a satirical ad on the parody of horror films. The ad was titled "horror".
